So you’re interested in how your mind works. You might even be practicing meditation. But you’re not so interested in pretending you live in ancient Asia. You care about the world. This World. You’re into media. You love contemporary culture. You get into heated political discussions and even more heated discussions about Project Runway. Above all, you really dig the truth of interdependence – that nothing happens in a vacuum. But what you really love is not the truth of interdependence itself, but the endless connections and countless ironies that this truth reveals. Welcome to One City. You’ve lived here your whole life, whether you know it or not.
One City, this blog, is an outgrowth of the Interdependence Project, a grassroots, community-oriented 501 (c) 3 nonprofit organization based in New York City’s East Village, with a chapter emerging in Portland, Oregon. The ID Project offers weekly meditation classes, lectures, online discussion boards, workshops, retreats, community service and activism projects, monthly arts groups and more — all inspired by the Buddhist philosophical tradition. We are dedicated to teaching the insights of meditation and applying the truth of the interconnectedness to life in the 21st-century world.
The writers of One City are Interdependence Project members. And we live in One City.
